The business is run by a board of directors, with Chris Day and Sophie Bambridge looking after the day to day running alongside Managing Director Tony Bambridge.
We have a team of employees who bring a wealth of skills and experience to daily tasks on the land. The attention to detail and dedication of the staff is a fundamental driving force in the success of the business and having the right team is critical to having success in business. The variations of skillsets means that we know how to deliver excellence in our business and that of our contract farming partners and customers. A range of age in the team means we are fit for the future too. Our team are highly motivated who work to the highest of standards in all that they do and believe in the business ethos entirely that we must do what’s right for our customers, our landowners and all key stakeholders to the business.
“Having studied Agriculture at the Norfolk College of Agriculture, now Easton College, and A Nuffield scholarship in 1988. I started B&C Farming in 1989 with the late David Crane.
The business has continued to grow and develop and the role I now play is much more about supporting the new management team and mentoring. Thankfully farming continues to be largely a people business where relationships with land owners, staff, customers and suppliers is key to a successful business as so many aspects have to be drawn together to deliver profitable results for all”
“Following an unconventional route in farming, I studied French and Spanish at university before completing MDS which at the time was very much a graduate scheme for businesses in the Fresh Produce industry. After completion, I was employed by Barfoots, a large grower and importer of vegetables supplying into major retailers and food service businesses. There I spent much of my time working with key retail accounts like Sainsbury’s and Marks & Spencer.
That experience of produce supply chains meant I could bring some transferable skills across when I joined B&C Farming in late 2016. But even so, I remain on a steep learning curve of all things farming!
Day to day I look after the potato side of the business as well as the lorries but with a huge amount of crossover with Chris in all things people and general business.
Alongside the day job, I am currently Chair of CUPGRA and a Board Member of GB Potatoes.”
“I moved to Norfolk in 2009 and attended Easton College to study a National Diploma in Agriculture. Having not been raised in a farming environment I had very little knowledge of the industry, but I was committed to learn and never afraid to ask the “obvious” questions. After completing the National Diploma and receiving the Agricultural Student of the year award, I decided to complete a degree in Agriculture Management, which I completed in 2014.
I began working at B&C Farming in 2011 and once I completed my studies, I took on the roll as second sprayer operator. I had the opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of operations for several years, before taking on the Management role in 2016.
Since taking on the role I have completed FACTs and BASIS which has helped me with managing the agronomy and spraying decisions within the business.
Day to day my responsibilities revolve around maintaining the high standards and efficiency of the operational teams as well as working alongside Sophie and Tony to run the business as a whole.”
